Taoiseach advice on Brexit. Artists at the Museum of Archaeology

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of the Republic of Ireland, visited Northern Ireland today, expressing frustration with the UK re Brexit and the lack of detailed proposals on how to prevent a hard border between the two countries on the Irish island. He called for new innovative solutions, including  the possibility of an EU-UK customs union or a "deep free trade agreement" with the EU with the possibility of the UK rejoining EFTA (the European Free Trade Association). Both suggestions are likely to alarm advocates of a hard Brexit.

A double museums day today for me. First at the Norris where I helped out again with the activity day. There were already visitors at the museum when I arrived shortly after opening time and a steady stream of families came during the morning.

This evening, Jane and I went to the 'Drink and Draw' event at the Museum of Archaeology. We were tired and not too sure whether we should beforehand, however, once there, we each found a suitable subject to draw amongst the statues and plaster casts.

The museum was full of artists, standing or seated, drawing figures using paper and pencils provided by the museum of using their own drawing pads. Two artists were on hand and wandering around offering advice and encouragement. Jane and I are not great fans of figurative drawing, but we were both pleasantly surprised at the results of our attempts when we left.

There is a Specsavers advert, where an attendant goes around flicking off light switches and then shortsightedly breaks off a male statue's member. I think that they used the Museum of Archaeology for filming, with lots of retakes - judging by the large number of castrated male statues that we saw today.
