Hayfever, Lawns and London Bridge Terrorism

Not up till lunchtime due to a bad start, combined either with severe hayfever or developing cold, so took it easy. As Jane out and this being the first dry day for a while, plodded up and down the front and back lawns with lawnmower, with a box of tissues close by for regular stops. Mowing might seem insane if you have hayfever but is actually a survival strategy as you prevent or remove any grass seed heads, likely to be a source of the allergy. Unfortunately, grass pollen is wind blown, so it also comes from the wider environment.

This evening, turned on the 10 o'clock news just as a major incident in London was evolving. initial reports were of a white van running amok on London Bridge, London, and hitting pedestrians. The situation evolved with another incident reported at Borough Market. Shots were heard by witnesses after the emergency services arrived within a couple of minutes. Another incident was then reported by the Metropolitan Police in Vauxhall.

More than half an hour of the event, the police released the tweets at the bottom of the page.

After midnight, news came in from one witness that the van hit people  on the bridge, stopped and then three people emerged and proceeded to stab anyone they could. It is not clear whether these people then went to Borough Market. It is not clear where the shots by the police were fired.

By 00:53, the Vauxhall incident was thought to be a separate stabbing unconnected to the first two incidents at London Bridge/Borough Market. Unconfiirmed reports say police shot two people at the London Bridge/Borough Market incident.

By 1 am, Prime Minister stating that this was thought to be a terrorist incident, with confirmation that this was the case from the Metropolitan Police.
